Concurrent with Ashura, Turkish officials also expressed condolences and commemorated the martyrs of Karbala.
Ămer Ăelik, the spokesperson for Turkey’s Justice and Development Party (AK Party), in a message described Ashura as a day that illuminates humanity and the future, and emphasized that the epic of this great day will always remain alive.
In a message posted on his Twitter account on the occasion of the arrival of Muharram and Ashura, he wrote: The month of Muharram has always been a reminder of truth in our religious books. Ashura is the day of keeping alive the true human being who stands against oppression. Ashura is the day of the message of standing against oppression and tyranny at any cost, keeping truth alive, and pursuing it for humanity and for illuminating the future and humankind.
The AK Party spokesperson added: We honor the memory of Imam Husayn (a.s.), who sacrificed his life for the truth, and the memory of the other martyrs of Karbala. Muharram is the school of humanity, and Karbala and Ashura are the true lessons of the school of humanity. Today, too, there is oppression in the world, and many of the oppressed face the same oppression that was inflicted in Karbalaâfor them, every day is Karbala.
