Senator Raja Nasir Abbas Jafari, Secretary-General of Pakistan’s Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), stated in an interview with the media that the month of Muharram al-Haram is the shared heritage of all Muslims. Love and devotion to Imam Hussein (a.s.) and the AhlulBayt (a.s.) of the Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) constitute an inseparable part of every Muslim’s faith. Therefore, the government has a duty to ensure the complete security of mourners and to provide all necessary facilities and arrangements for the holding of mourning ceremonies.
He asserted that holding mourning gatherings within private premises and closed spaces does not require a permit, and there is a clear ruling from the Lahore High Court on this matter. However, he considered the filing of cases against some organizers and sponsors of gatherings as a clear violation of the fundamental rights and religious freedoms of citizens.
The Secretary-General of Pakistan’s Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, referring to the efforts of anti-Pakistan elements to fuel sectarianism and spread hatred during Muharram, stated: The aware and patriotic people of Pakistan will never allow such conspiracies to succeed. According to him, serious and effective confrontation with divisive elements that harm the unity of the Islamic Ummah is an undeniable necessity.
He further stated that following the heart-wrenching martyrdom of the Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Sayed Ali Husseini Khamenei, a vast wave of solidarity and unity has formed within the Islamic Ummah. He described the preservation of this cohesion and empathy as one of the most important needs of the contemporary Islamic world and emphasized that the Islamic Ummah must remain united and integrated in the face of conspiracies and the sinister objectives of its enemies.
