Russia’s Shiites, concurrent with Ashura, held mourning rituals, chest-beating, and processions in memory of the Master and Lord of the Martyrs of Karbala.
The ritual was held at the Khatam al-Anbiya (p.b.u.h.) Mosque in Moscow with the presence of Dr. Kazem Jalali, Iran’s Ambassador to Russia, and the Husayni mourners, after mourning in lamentation of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (a.s.) and his loyal companions, performed the noon and afternoon prayers in congregation in remembrance of the last prayer of Sayyed al-Shuhada (the Master of Martyrs) on Ashura.
The Islamic Center of Moscow, with a speech by Hojat al-Islam wal-Muslimin Mehdi Bakhtavar, the representative of the Supreme Leader in Russia; the Fatimah al-Zahra (s.a.) Husayniyyah in Moscow, with a speech by Hojat al-Islam Haji Famil Jafarov; the AhlulBayt (a.s.) Husayniyyah in St. Petersburg, with a speech by Hojat al-Islam Rifat Mohammadov; the Khameneh Mosque (Iranians) in Makhachkala, with a speech by Dr. Nuri Mammadov; the Friday Mosque in Derbent, with a speech by Haji Hojat al-Islam Tehran Aghayev; as well as Yekaterinburg, Astrakhan, Bashkortostan, and Tatarstan, were centers of the enthusiastic presence of Husayni mourners.
*Ta’ziyeh (Passion Play) in Russian
Complementing the mourning rituals on the midnight of Ashura and attracting many audiences is the Ta’ziyeh and passion play program.
Shiites of various nationalities gave a warm reception to this ritual, and about an hour before the program began, the hall’s full capacity was reached, with many also watching the ritual while standing.
The organizers of this Ta’ziyeh in Russian stated that about 20 volunteers from Russian citizens and the Republic of Azerbaijan participate in performing roles in this passion play.
The opening part of tonight’s Ta’ziyeh was dedicated to the Rawda-khwani (eulogy) of Umm al-Banin, the mother of Abal-Fazl Abbas (a.s.).
The second part of this ritual was dedicated to the dialogue of Lady Zaynab (s.a.) with Imam Hussein and Abal-Fazl (peace be upon them), and then the scene of the martyrdom of the high-ranking martyrs of Karbala was performed in Russian.
The hoisting of the flags of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Lebanon, and Palestine over the venue of the Ta’ziyeh ritual was noteworthy.
*Symbolic Procession
The people of Derbent in Dagestan, Russia, which has deep historical and cultural ties with Iran, in an age-old tradition, while mourning and lamenting the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (a.s.), marched from the city’s neighborhood mosque to the Grand Mosque of the city.
The Husayni mourners, walking along this one-kilometer route, engage in mourning, which possesses a particular grandeur and splendor in expressing devotion to the Master of the Martyrs of Karbala.
