In Pakistan, millions of devotees of the AhlulBayt (a.s.)—from Karachi to Lahore, from Islamabad to Peshawar—have gathered on Ashura to once again renew their covenant with the ideals of Karbala.

Black and red flags have been raised in the streets, and the cries of “Ya Hussein” and “Ya Abbas” resonate across various cities of Pakistan. Young and old, men and women, all have come together to keep alive the memory of an epic that, after centuries, continues to inspire the free people of the world.

Alongside the mourning processions, thousands of people distribute water, food, and charitable offerings (Nazr) to host the mourners—in remembrance of the thirst of the children and companions of Imam Hussein (a.s.) in the desert of Karbala.

Ashura for the people of Pakistan is not merely a religious occasion; it is a day to keep alive values such as justice, loyalty, sacrifice, and resistance.
