The Shiite community in Nairobi held a large-scale procession on the occasion of commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Husayn (a.s.), the beloved grandson of the Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.), as part of the continuation of mourning ceremonies and keeping alive the memory and message of the month of Muharram.

This ceremony was held with the aim of promoting the universal values of the Husayni movement, including justice, human dignity, sacrifice, freedom, compassion, and the fight against oppression and tyranny.

The ceremony showcased a manifestation of the diversity and cohesion of Kenya’s Shiite community. Scholars and clerics, social leaders, youth, women, children, and the elderly from various institutions and centers participated in this event.

The presence of the Ambassador and the Cultural Attaché of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Nairobi emphasized the significance of this ceremony and its role in strengthening cultural and religious relations between the Shiite communities of Iran and Kenya.

Among the objectives of this program were strengthening unity and solidarity among various Shiite groups in Kenya and developing inter-community cooperation through a joint cultural and religious movement.

The procession began from the Imam Hasan (a.s.) Mosque located on Park Road in Nairobi.

Throughout the route, participants carried placards and banners with themes of justice, dignity, truth, freedom, and confronting oppression, derived from the teachings and values of the Husayni movement.

At various points along the route, scholars and leaders of the Shiite community, while explaining the historical dimensions of the Karbala event and the status of Imam Husayn (a.s.), emphasized the enduring and inspirational role of Ashura’s message in the lives of contemporary societies.

They noted that the uprising of Imam Husayn (a.s.) is not merely a historical event, but rather an eternal symbol of the struggle for justice, truth, and human dignity.
