🌐 Iraq: 🧑‍🎓 History of the “International Scientific Conference on the Arbaeen Pilgrimage.”

The series of International Scientific Conferences on the Arbaeen Pilgrimage is held every year by the “Karbala Center for Studies and Research,” the scientific and research arm of the Holy Shrine of Imam Husayn (a.s.).

These conferences are held under the supervision of Ayatollah Sheikh “Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalai” and managed by Professor “Abdul Amir Aziz al-Quraishi,” with Iraqi academic and governmental institutions cooperating with the center in their organization.

The previous nine sessions have been held respectively with the following themes, and the conference has now reached its tenth session:

1. First International Scientific Conference on the Arbaeen Pilgrimage / Theme: “The Arbaeen Pilgrimage: Meanings and Indications” (Arabic: زيارة الاربعين المعاني والدلالات) / Saturday, October 14, 2017 (23 Muharram 1439 AH).
2. Second International Scientific Conference on the Arbaeen Pilgrimage / Theme: “The Arbaeen Pilgrimage: A Path to Reform and a Method for Spiritual Education” (Arabic: زيارة الأربعين معراج للإصلاح ومنهج للتربية الروحية) / Thursday, October 18, 2018 (8 Safar 1440 AH).
3. Third International Scientific Conference on the Arbaeen Pilgrimage / Theme: “The Arbaeen Pilgrimage: A Path of Giving Towards Achieving the Goals of Sustainable Development” (Arabic: زيارة الاربعين مسيرة عطاء نحو تحقيق اهداف التنمية المستدامة) / Wednesday, October 9, 2019 (10 Safar 1441 AH).
4. Fourth International Scientific Conference on the Arbaeen Pilgrimage / Theme: “Youth and the Arbaeen Pilgrimage: Self-Development to Build the Future” (Arabic: الشباب وزيارة الأربعين تطوير الذات لصناعة المستقبل) / Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, September 16–18, 2020 (27–29 Muharram 1442 AH).

🦠 This session was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

5. Fifth International Scientific Conference on the Arbaeen Pilgrimage / Theme: “The Arbaeen Pilgrimage: The Body of Life, the Heart is the Family, and its Mind is the Youth” (Arabic: الزيارة الأربعينية جسد الحياة، قلبه الأسرة، وعقله الشباب) / Monday and Tuesday, August 20–21, 2021 (3–4 Safar 1443 AH).
6. Sixth International Scientific Conference on the Arbaeen Pilgrimage / Theme: “Arbaeen; Steadfastness of the Path and Title of Identity” (Arabic: الأربعین؛ ثبات النهج وعنوان الهویة) / Friday and Saturday, September 23–24, 2022 (26–27 Safar 1444 AH).
7. Seventh International Scientific Conference on the Arbaeen Pilgrimage / Theme: “The Arbaeen Pilgrimage; Authenticity of Values and Title of Civilization” (Arabic: زیارة الأربعین… أصالة القیم وعنوان الحضارة) / Friday and Saturday, September 8–9, 2023 (22–23 Safar 1445 AH).
8. Eighth International Scientific Conference on the Arbaeen Pilgrimage / Theme: “The Arbaeen Pilgrimage; Towards Global Approaches to Humanity and Civilization” (Arabic: زیارة الأربعین … نحو مقاربات عالمیة للإنسان والحضارة) / Wednesday and Thursday, August 28–29, 2024 (23–24 Safar 1446 AH).
9. Ninth International Scientific Conference on the Arbaeen Pilgrimage / Theme: “The Arbaeen Pilgrimage; Embodiment of Spiritual Values and Scientific Progress” (Arabic: زیارة الأربعین… تجسید للقیم الروحیة والتقدم العلمي) / Monday and Tuesday, August 18–19, 2025 (23–24 Safar 1447 AH).
10. Tenth International Scientific Conference on the Arbaeen Pilgrimage / Theme: “The Arbaeen Pilgrimage; A Civilizational Message in the Age of Digital Transformation” (Arabic: “زيارة الأربعين… رسالة حضارية في ظل التحول الرقمي”) / Friday and Saturday, August 7–8, 2026 (23–24 Safar 1448 AH).
