The Crescent Observation Headquarters of the Office of the Supreme Leader announced that crescent observation groups in Iran did not succeed in sighting the new moon on the evening of Tuesday, the 29th of Muharram. Accordingly, Muharram was 30 days, and Thursday, July 16, 2026, will be the first day of Safar, 1448 AH.

The Office of Grand Ayatollah Sistani in Najaf also issued a statement announcing that Thursday, July 16, 2026, will be the first day of the month of Safar al-Khayr, 1448 AH.

Therefore, this year, the day of Arbaeen will coincide in Iran and Iraq on the same day (i.e., August 4, 2026).
