🇹🇷 The special guest at this year’s magnificent Halkalı Ashura Ceremony in Istanbul was Dr. Simayi Sarraf, Iran’s Minister of Science, who opened his remarks by remembering the martyred Leader:

> “I come from a country where one of the descendants of Husayn ibn Ali has been killed by the Yazid of our time, and his body still lies on the ground: Martyr Ayatollah Khamenei.”

He went on to state:

> “Ashura is the day of the confrontation between the culture of Jahiliyyah and the culture of Islam and reason. The Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) came to replace ignorance with rationality, oppression with justice, violence with forbearance, discrimination with equality, and war with peace. Yet, only a few decades later, these values were distorted. Imam Husayn (a.s.) rose to reform the religion of the Prophet and restore the Muhammadan values. Thus, he declared: *‘إِنَّمَا خَرَجْتُ لِطَلَبِ الْإِصْلَاحِ’* (*Indeed, I have risen only to seek reform*).”

On behalf of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Minister of Science also expressed gratitude to the people and government of Türkiye for supporting the Iranian nation during the war of aggression launched by the United States and Israel.

The Halkalı Ashura Ceremony is held every year with great splendor by the Zaynabiyya Foundation, attended by large numbers of Shiites from Türkiye as well as senior government officials in Istanbul.
