Ashura International Foundation / Husayni Mourning News – July 20, 2025:
Concurrent with commemorating the memory of Imam Husayn (a.s.) and the 72 martyrs of Karbala, the Imam Husayn (a.s.) Mosque in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India, hosted a blood donation campaign with the participation of Shiites and Sunnis—a program that demonstrated a lasting manifestation of Islamic unity, the culture of Husayni sacrifice, and service to humanity.
In this humanitarian campaign, over 50 people from various segments of society donated blood, paying tribute to the martyrs of Karbala while embodying the message of altruism, sacrifice, and social responsibility in action. This initiative, in addition to helping supply blood needed for patients, demonstrated the deep connection between Ashura values and service to the community.
One of the notable features of this ceremony was the warm and joint presence of Shiites and their Sunni brothers alongside one another. The participation of followers of both schools in this charitable act once again demonstrated that the message of the Ashura movement transcends religious and ethnic boundaries, inviting all humanity to unity, empathy, sacrifice, service to fellow human beings, and brotherhood, and can pave the way for solidarity and peaceful coexistence in society.
During this ceremony, Hojat al-Islam Mirza Zaheer Abbas, an Indian cleric, emphasizing the importance of blood donation, described this act as one of the most valuable manifestations of service to humanity, and stated, “Every healthy individual, by donating blood, can save the lives of several patients and alleviate the suffering of many families. Therefore, it is fitting for eligible individuals to voluntarily participate in this humanitarian act at least twice a year.”
Referring to the philosophy of the Ashura uprising, he added: “The radiant life of Imam Husayn (a.s.) is full of lessons of truth-seeking, justice-seeking, sacrifice, devotion, and service to the people. The message of Karbala is not limited to fighting oppression and tyranny; rather, preserving human lives, spreading love, strengthening the spirit of solidarity, promoting peaceful coexistence, and social responsibility are among the most important teachings of this inspiring school.”
The organizers of this ceremony also announced that the campaign “Blood Donation in the Name of Imam Husayn (a.s.)” is held every year with the aim of promoting the culture of sacrifice, strengthening the spirit of social responsibility, and helping save patients’ lives, so that the enduring message of Ashura, through service to humanity and empathy among various segments of society, may spread further in the community.
