Concurrent with the beginning of Muharram, people in various locations across Kashmir have set up service processions (mawkibs) and are distributing water, syrup, tea, and various beverages.

Alongside these, mourning gatherings and processions are being held in different areas, with thousands of people attending these ceremonies.

One of the most important Muharram rituals was the raising of the black flag at the “Zari Bal Husayniyyah” located in Srinagar—a Husayniyyah considered among the oldest centers of mourning for Imam Husayn (a.s.) in Kashmir.

At this ceremony, the black flag of Imam Husayn (a.s.) was raised, and hundreds of people participated in the mourning ritual and procession.

Participants in these ceremonies state that the message of Karbala continues to inspire freedom-seekers and the oppressed of the world.

Muharram in Kashmir is held every year with special fervor and devotion, and the people of this land keep alive the eternal message of Karbala through various rituals.
