Concurrent with the beginning of the month of Muharram, various African countries have witnessed the widespread holding of mourning gatherings for Imam Husayn (a.s.)—ceremonies centered on justice, resistance, and unity, showcasing a manifestation of the universal nature of Ashura’s message.

*Nigeria; Continuation of Mourning Gatherings in Kano State

In Nigeria’s Kano State, mourning ceremonies and religious gatherings have been held continuously since the first days of Muharram. In one such gathering, Sheikh Muhammad Jamil delivered a speech on the objectives of Imam Husayn’s (a.s.) uprising, the reform of the Islamic Ummah, the spirit of sacrifice, and steadfastness on the path of truth. The ceremony was supervised by Sayed Bashir al-Thani Mahmoud.

Additionally, Sheikh Sulaiman Ayyub, in his remarks, expounded on the ethical, social, and religious teachings of the Husayni movement, identifying unity, justice, sacrifice, and resistance against oppression as among the most important messages of the school of Ashura. This ceremony was also held with the widespread presence of the devotees of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) in an atmosphere filled with grief and spirituality.
