Afghanistan/ Statement by the Shiite Scholars Council Regarding Recent Restrictions During Muharram

The Shiite Scholars Council of Afghanistan, in a published statement, expressed concern over recent restrictions during Muharram, including the removal of mourning flags, the detention of a number of mosque and Takaya officials, the suspension of Tamaddun TV broadcasts, and the closure of the Khatam al-Nabiyyin (p.b.u.h) Seminary.

The Shiite Scholars Council of Afghanistan, while emphasizing respect for official institutions, called for an immediate investigation into the matter, the reopening of the Khatam al-Nabiyyin (p.b.u.h) Seminary, and the resumption of Tamaddun TV broadcasts.

The Council stressed that these issues will be discussed with the leadership of the Islamic Emirate and other senior officials of the country after Ashura.

The Council also called upon scholars and orators to inform the people of the current situation and to emphasize the preservation of unity, public order, and the pursuit of demands through official channels.
